Refresh Your Mind and Save Sea Turtles in Jembrana
Jembrana
regency is a district located on the western tip of the island of Bali.
Previously there were many people who only knew Jembrana as a district with a
unique makepung tradition, but now
Jembrana is becoming known because there are several areas that were developed
as tourism objects, one of which is turtle conservation in Perancak village.
Not
only Denpasar has Serangan as a place to conserve turtles, but also Jembrana
that has Perancak as a turtle conservation asset. The Perancak community began
to realize the importance of preserving the environment since 22 years ago, so
that a community succeeded in making sea turtle conservation called Kurma Asih.
Kurma
Asih Sea Turtle Conservation Center is located on Krisna Street Br. Mekarsari,
Perancak Village, Jembrana, Bali. It takes about 2 hours 30 minutes from
Denpasar to arrive there. This turtle conservation is managed by the Kurma Asih
Turtle Conservation Group (Kelompok Pelestari Penyu or KPP) led by I Wayan Anom
Astika Jaya.
Until
now, many foreign tourists have visited the Kurma Asih Sea Turtle Conservation.
They come from Belgium, Denmark, Russia, Norway, Japan, Germany, and many more.
In addition, several students from Bali and outside Bali also came to learn
about the turtle conservation process. Usually guests who come here can see the
egg hatching area, hatchery shelter, or take care of existing turtles by
providing food and vitamins. There are 3 types of turtles that are preserved
here, namely: Hawksbill Turtle, Leatherback Turtle and Lekang Turtle.
The
recommended time to visit Kurma Asih is in November, because usually guests
will be involved in releasing hatchlings and they can enjoy the makepung tradition that very typical
from Jembrana. When you come to Kurma Asih Sea Turtle Conservation, you are not
charged special fees. But if you want to donate to support Kurma Asih, it is
very welcome. When the guests feel thirsty and hungry, Kurma Asih has also
provided facilities in the form of warung
to fill their energy.
Beside,
in Perancak village there are also other tourist attractions such as the beach
with beautiful sunset views, motocross arenas, mangrove forests, and the
activities of the fishermen with their interesting boats.(Erna-MBP 5B-27)
