Bengkala Village is one of the unique
villages that you must visit in Buleleng. Bengkala Village is a village with
uniqueness that you will not find in other parts of Bali. Well, Bengkala
Village is a mute village that makes you learn many things from a limited
ability to speak.
Although it is called a dumb village, not
all residents of Bengkala Village are mute and deaf. There were 12 families
with a total of 42 people who suffered from mute and deafness. Bengkala Village
can provide vacation experiences and fields to find knowledge because, Bengkala
villagers who suffer from mute and deaf people have different sign languages
The Origin of Mute and Deaf Residents in Bengkala Village, Buleleng
Dumb and deaf in Balinese is called kolok. It is not known exactly why there are some people who suffer from kolok. According to this study due to genetic factors where both parents suffer from cholok so that their children also experience kolok. However, there were some residents whose parents were kolok but not to their children.
There is also a well-known myth in one village where there are two groups with different beliefs where one group worshiped a certain deity but the other group opposed worshiping the deity. Finally, the group that did not want to worship the god came out of the village and decided to separate and leave with gold.
The other group tried to solve this problem and tried to call the group that was going to leave the village, however, every unanswered call didn't even turn away. So the group that survived in the village became angry and condemned the group that left the village so that their descendants could not hear and speak. It is said that groups who left the village now settled in Bengkala Village.
The uniqueness of Bengkala Village
In Bengkala village there is an extraordinary school that specifically teaches sign language used in Bengkala Village. The language used is kolok. This extraordinary school is open to the public, for anyone who wants to learn is welcome and without knowing the age limit.
In addition to the uniqueness of its citizens, there are also arts that are displayed to tourists. Janger Kolok dance is a Janger dance in general, but all the dancers are kolok or mute and deaf. For the dance just use a drum instrument as a rhythm regulator.
Janger Kolok dance is quite famous to foreign countries. This is caused by residents of Bengkala Buleleng Village internet literacy so that promotion through the internet and distribution through social media make Janger Kolok Dance quite popular overseas.

Bengkala Buleleng Village is located in Kubutambahan District, Buleleng, Bali. The location of Bengkala Village is quite easy to reach. Driving from the City takes around 30 minutes by driving. To enter the Bengkala Village area, you are free of charge, but to watch the Janger Kolok Dance performance you will be charged a ticket.
